The strongest earthquake in 40 years was recorded in northwestern New York State in the United States, the NBC television channel reports.

According to the Geological Service (USGS), the tremor occurred two kilometers east of the town of West Seneca. The source was located at a depth of three kilometers. There was no information about casualties or destruction.

“A magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck near Buffalo, N.Y., Monday morning, the strongest recorded in the area in 40 years,” the report said.

As NBC notes, 24 earthquakes above 2.5 magnitude have been recorded in the West Seneca area since 1983. Monday, however, was the strongest of them all.
